Meet The Doctor
Dr. Nadia Pokrovskaya
“I love working as a dentist. I love my patients, and I love my staff. The reason I come to work is to see my patients excitement after getting beautiful and healthy smiles back.
So many people do not smile because they are embarrassed of what their teeth look like. So many people have pain in their teeth. This makes people unhappy, and effects their entire life - they get depressed, they have trouble getting a good job, they can’t fully participate in life.
I am so lucky to be excellent at giving people beautiful smiles, and getting them out of pain. I simply love that I can help people, and make them happy. I love when my patients smile after the visit!”

Common Dental Emergencies
Emergency dental situations are an unfortunate reality that can dramatically compromise oral health. Toothaches are one of the most prevalent dental emergencies, characterized by persistent discomfort around affected teeth. Jaw pain often manifested by difficulty opening or closing jaws can also require immediate care and should not be neglected. Broken or chipped teeth need immediate treatment in order to avoid further damage or infection, and require prompt attention in order to protect their integrity and avoid further harm or infection.
Lost teeth should always be addressed immediately in order to maximize chances of successful reimplantation or restoration, while cracked dentures require immediate repairs or replacement in order to ensure optimal oral health and functionality. Prompt action against dental emergencies is crucial in terms of minimizing pain, avoiding complications, and maintaining overall dental well-being.
Home Care Tips Until You See the Dentist
• Rinse your mouth with warm water
• Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and numb the area
• Take an over-the-counter pain relief medication
• Avoid chewing on the affected side of your mouth as it can cause further damage
• If you experience severe pain or bleeding, visit an emergency room.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my dental problem is an emergency or can wait?
The short answer: If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, you need an emergency dentist immediately. Teeth that have been dislodged traumatically need to be treated within minutes for best results. Pain and pressure are usually caused by inflammation, which is in most cases, a sign of infection. Infections need to be treated quickly to stop the infection and save the tooth.
If you have pain or discomfort in your teeth or gums, call us immediately and plan on a same day emergency dental appointment. You will absolutely need to have x-rays taken and an exam by Dr. Nadia, and she will absolutely get you out of pain.
If you are NOT in pain but you have noticed a problem with your teeth or gums, you should still call us immediately and plan to come in within a day or two. The fact is: no dental problem can wait without becoming a worse and more expensive dental problem.
How long does it take to recover from emergency dental procedures?
This depends on what procedure was required, but in many cases recovery from emergency dental work will involve some minor swelling and maybe over-the-counter pain relievers for a day or two. Most people return to normal work activities directly after their emergency dental appointment.
Can delaying emergency dental care make the problem worse?
Absolutely. Most of the time, the reason people have dental problems is because they are NOT going to a dentist for regular cleanings and exams, so they are not aware of the actual conditions in their mouth. Most cavities are not visible to you or me by looking in the mirror because they start BETWEEN your teeth. A cavity left unhandled will grow and spread quickly until the bacteria reach the nerve.
Once there is pain, that usually means you will need a root canal, which is 10x the cost of getting a cavity filled. And if you are tough enough to endure the pain and you still don’t get it handled, then you’re going to lose the tooth, and replacing that tooth with an implant is around 2x the cost of a root canal which is about 20x the cost of a cavity.
So don’t wait until you have money or your schedule lightens up. Be proactive. The bacteria in your mouth are working aggressively and diligently around the clock to take over your mouth, and they are REALLY serious about it! Dr. Nadia wants to help you to save your teeth and keep them healthy.
What dental issues require immediate treatment versus next-day care?
Any dental issue that involves pain, swelling, discomfort, or pressure needs to be handled immediately. Teeth that have been knocked loose or knocked out need to be treated within minutes or up to an hour. Call our office and let’s get you in for an emergency dental visit as soon as you can get here!
Are emergency dental procedures safe for children and seniors?
Yes! All dental procedures at Clearwater Dentist are designed to restore the teeth and gums to perfect health and function, and this is true for children and seniors. Active children commonly have teeth knocked loose, and getting them treated by an emergency dentist is very safe.
